Feeling Better? Don’t Ghost Your Chiropractic Care

You came in because your neck hurt.

Or maybe it was your low back, headaches, stiffness, posture, or simply feeling like something wasn’t right.

You started chiropractic care. You followed your recommendations. You did your home exercises.

And then something great happened:

You started feeling better.

So…time to disappear, right? 👻

Not necessarily.

One of the biggest mistakes people can make with their health is assuming that the moment a symptom improves, everything that contributed to it has automatically changed too.

This October, we’re talking about how to not let your health get scary—and part of that means understanding the difference between getting relief and building longer-term progress.

Feeling Better Is a Win

First things first: we WANT you to feel better.

If you came into our office uncomfortable, getting to a point where you can move more comfortably, sleep better, exercise again, or get through your workday more easily is something worth celebrating.

But symptoms are only one piece of the information we consider.

Think about why you started care in the first place.

Maybe you had spent years sitting at a desk with very little movement throughout the day.

Maybe you were constantly looking down at your phone.

Maybe an old injury had changed how you moved.

Maybe you had gradually become stiffer and less mobile without really noticing it.

Those habits and patterns don't necessarily disappear the same day you start feeling better.

Why Does My Chiropractor Recommend a Care Plan?

This is a question we WANT patients to ask.

At Abundant Health Chiropractic, recommendations aren't meant to be mysterious.

Your care recommendations may consider things like your examination findings, health history, mobility, posture, lifestyle, goals, how long you've been dealing with a concern, and how you're responding to care.

That also means not everyone receives the exact same recommendations.

Your chiropractor should be able to explain what they're seeing, what they're working toward, and why they're recommending a particular frequency of care.

If you don't understand something about your care plan, ask.

We'd much rather have that conversation than have you wondering why you're coming in.

Progress Doesn't Always Happen in a Straight Line

Health can be frustrating because progress isn't always perfectly linear.

You may have a fantastic week followed by a stressful week at work where everything feels tight again.

You might feel great after being more active, then notice stiffness after a long flight or road trip.

You might make progress with your posture, only to spend an entire weekend hunched over a laptop.

That doesn't automatically mean you've “gone backward.”

Your body is still interacting with your everyday life.

That's also why the things you do outside of our office matter.

Movement, exercise, sleep, nutrition, stress management, ergonomics, and following your recommended home care can all be important parts of supporting your overall health.

Don’t Forget the “Home” Part of Healthcare

An adjustment may be one part of your chiropractic care.

But what happens during the rest of your week?

If your chiropractor gives you exercises, stretches, traction, mobility work, or other home recommendations, there is usually a reason behind them.

And no, doing an exercise twice and forgetting about it for three weeks probably doesn't count as consistency. 😉

Small habits repeated regularly tend to be much more useful than one giant burst of motivation.

That applies to exercise.

It applies to nutrition.

It applies to sleep.

And it applies to taking care of your spine and body.

“But I Feel Fine!”

Good!

That's exactly the direction we want things to go.

The question then becomes:

What does your next phase of care look like?

Depending on the individual, recommendations can change as progress is evaluated. That's why re-examinations, conversations with your chiropractor, and tracking how you're doing can be valuable.

The goal isn't to keep doing the exact same thing forever.

The goal is to understand where you are, where you're trying to go, and what makes sense for you along the way.

Don’t Ghost Your Health

We get it.

Life gets busy.

Work gets crazy. Kids have activities. Vacations happen. You feel better and suddenly that appointment you once couldn't wait for becomes much easier to put off.

But this applies to more than chiropractic care.

Don't wait until you're completely overwhelmed to address stress.

Don't wait until you're exhausted to think about sleep.

Don't wait until you haven't exercised for six months to start moving.

And don't wait until your body is screaming for attention before you start listening to it again.

Feeling good isn't a reason to stop caring about your health. It's a great reason to keep taking care of it.

So this October, don't ghost the habits that helped you make progress in the first place.

Your future self might be very glad you didn't.
